PTERYGOID IMPLANTS

PTERYGOID IMPLANTS

Implants which are placed through the maxillary tuberosity and engaging into the pterygoid plate. These implants can be used in patients with severe maxillary atrophy with no adequate crestal bone height at maxillary sinus area.

Implant is placed into pterygoid bone structure to serve as distal abutments (support) for implant prosthesis. Adding Pterygoids to especially All on 4 protocal in such cases gives opportunity to rehabilitate patient with 14units of teethset per arch unlike All on 4.

The challenges posed by the sinus cavity and rarefaction of the posterior maxillary bone often hinder the placement of implants beyond the first premolar. Pterygoid implants offer a viable solution for patients with severe jaw bone resorption, providing minimal surgical trauma while maximizing oral function.

Utilizing the stability and support of the pterygomaxillary structures, these implants are angled and designed to engage either the pterygoid process, the pyramidal plate of the palatine bone, or both. They have demonstrated successful support for complete-arch fixed prostheses.
